NAPA, Ca. - Cloudy skies and cool morning temperatures gave way to sunshine and a comfortable afternoon in wine country for the first round at Silverado Resort in Napa. A total of eight players shot rounds of par or better on the North Course, which is a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. layout, which underwent a re-design in 2011 by Johnny Miller. The course also hosts the annual Fortinet PGA TOUR event.
In the Senior Division, Reading, Pa.'s Chris Storck leads the way after firing the low round of the day, a 3-under par 69, which featured four birdies against a lone bogey. Mark Sanchez of Kentfield, Calif. is just one shot behind the leader.
In the Super Senior Division, Jim McNelis of Gig Harbor, Wash. leads by one stroke over Carl Horsch of Eden Prairie, Minn. McNelis carded a solid opening round of 1-under par 71.
Happy Rakestraw of Naples, Fla. posted a 1-over par round of 73 to lead the Legend Division by two strokes over George Walker of Fairhope, Ala.
Franklin Tennessee's Mike Nixon fired the lone red number in the Grand Master Division, a 1-under par round of 71. He leads by three strokes over Jerry Hutton of Long Beach, Calif.
