BLUFFTON, S.C. - Tomorrow, May 17, marks the 40th anniversary of the very first Society of Seniors event held at Atlantic City Country Club. 180+ events later, we celebrate our founders for their vision and thank all of our members for their continued support of senior championship golf. Thank you as well to the many host venues who have supported our events.
High skies and plentiful sunshine greeted players at the first tee today for the second round of the 41st Dale Morey Championship hosted by Berkeley Hall Club in Bluffton, SC. Savannah, Ga. native Jack Hall lit up the first six holes on the South Course with five consecutive birdies on No. 2 through No. 6. A minor hiccup after his tee shot on No. 7 found the left fairway bunker cooled him off, but only momentarily. Hall would string together another streak of birdies, this time on No. 13 through No. 15 to create more separation from the field. From there, he played steady golf coming home to achieve a special feat, he shot his age for the first time. His round of 65 puts his two day total at 12-under, 132, good enough for a seven stroke lead going into the final round.
Stan Humphries (Monroe, La.), is Hall's closest challenger through two rounds. The former NFL quarterback kept a clean card through No. 14 and had it to 5-under par before back-to-back bogeys on No. 15 & No. 16. Humphries rallied on No. 17 with a birdie, but bogeyed No. 18 to finish with 69 on the day to put himself at 5-under for the tournament.
The final round will get started tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. off of the 1st and 10th tees.
