The Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter Florida provided the setting for an unprecedented back-to-back SOS tournament event. The first week was for the Seniors and Super Seniors, the second week was for the seasoned veterans.

The Society of Seniors Spring Classic Two is an event and a gathering. Specifically designed for those players competing in the Legend and Grand Master divisions, the second week of the annual Spring Classic was attended by 60 players ranging in age from 70-86. 85-year-old Harry Cain, Boynton Beach, FL came to the event with the intent to better his age by an aggregate 30 shots for three rounds. Although Harry fell a tad short of his goal, he still beat his age by 23 shots, a fantastic achievement for the 3-time SOS champion.

Peter Van Ingen, Palm Beach, FL posted his first SOS victory by a comfortable margin of 5 shots over Don Donatoni, West Chester, PA. Van Ingen’s opening rounds of 67-69 set the bar too high for his chasers. Van Ingen took a 7-shot lead into the final round, and never let go. His 211 total was five better than Donatoni, the SOS 2022 Player of the Year and 7 shots better than Bill Barnes, Bonita Springs, FL alone at 218. Allan Small, Savannah, GA was next at 219.

In the Grand Master Division, it was steady Pete McDade, Lakeland, FL carding rounds of 72-71-71 for a 214 total for the title. McDade started the final round deadlocked with Ron Johnson, Arroyo Grande, CA at 143. Johnson, a 7-time winner of Society events grabbed a share of the overnight lead with a second round 69. In the final, McDade’s 1-under par was enough to ensure his two-shot victory over Johnson. Tied with Johnson at 216 was Gil Stenholm, Burr Ridge, IL.
